To celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, 1945-2020, we have designed this illustration of the Spitfire. The aeroplane was originally made here in Staffordshire by Reginald Mitchell. We were also inspired by Mary Ellis, a truly remarkable lady who flew 400 Spitfires & 76 different types of aircraft during WW2.
The print is in a classic blue willow design. It portrays our local history which includes the famous pottery bottle kilns which were a major source of industry in the early years, the Staffordshire knot and, of course, a couple of ducks to represent the term of endearment we use here in Stoke on Trent, 'ay up, duck'.
